Brice HoskinAbout Mountain Boy Sleds

Mountain Boy Sledworks is located in Silverton, Colorado, at 9,318 feet in the heart of the San Juan Mountains. The town receives 150 inches of snow a year on average, making it a sledding haven – and the perfect testing grounds for Mountain Boy sleds. Throughout the winter, local families can be seen using Mountain Boy sleds to take their children to school, get groceries at the local store, and race down the local ski hill.

Sledmaker Brice Hoskin combines craftsmanship, woodworking and art in his unique sleds. Hoskin’s lifelong love of sledding led to the creation of Mountain Boy Sledworks, a company devoted to the creation of hand-crafted sleds that are not only functional but so much fun to use that they make grown-ups feel like children.

The Mountain Boy Story

Brice Hoskin's lifelong fascination with wood sleds became a way of life when he moved to the high mountain town of Silverton, Colorado. He was able to combine his woodworking experience with his love of sledding to create innovative, beautiful sleds designs.

Mountain Boy sleds give new meaning to the term "functional art" - they are known for their durability, speed and craftsmanship. "Sledding brings out the happy child in each of us," says Hoskin, who spends many winter afternoons sledding with his two young children.

Hoskin's wooden sleds hearken back to a century ago, when craftsman made sleds by hand out of fine wood and steel. He uses northern birch, a wood that combines beauty and strength, with copper accents and durable plastic for high-wear areas. While his sleds complement any home, they are also made to last. Each sled is designed to be passed from one generation to the next.

The Mountain Glider

Finding a fine sled isn't easy. It needs to be easily steered; it must float through soft snow and cruise down hard-packed slopes; and it has to be something beautiful, with good strong wood. The Mountain Glider is just that.

You'll notice that the Glider's front section pivots, giving you incredible turning power. Contoured runners on the bottom dig into the snow, letting you make smooth, even turns.
